Volkswagen fans across North America have been quietly wondering the same thing for a few years now: Is the Jetta ever going to get a new look? They got their answer when the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta premiered at the New York International Auto Show late last month.
The sixth-generation Jetta has delivered incredible top-to-bottom value since it hit the market in 2010, but a refresh is in order. Keep reading to see what the redesigned version of this compact car classic has in store.
In the Details: What’s New for the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta
Fine-tuned design
Some nameplates go overboard with their redesigns, but that’s not VW’s style. Rather than overhauling the Jetta, the engineers at Volkswagen have refined the compact car you love. A sleeker, more sculpted look highlights the new Jetta’s curbside profile. Sharper headlights and taillights complement a more athletic wheel design to give the 2019 Jetta a sportier vibe than its predecessor.
And it only gets better when you slip behind the wheel. Two-tone V-tex leatherette seats and a panoramic sunroof are just a few of the interior features that make it easy to take the long way on a daily basis.
Adaptive performance
Cars should adjust to their drivers, not the other way around. That’s why the all-new Jetta offers the choice of four driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom. With a standard 1.4L turbocharged engine that generates up to 147 horsepower and an estimated 40 mpg in fuel economy on the highway, commuters of all lifestyles can dig the revamped Jetta.
And for those who like to live a little closer to the edge, available Cross Different System XDS® promises better-than-ever cornering capability.
Purposeful tech
VW isn’t interested in tacking on a bunch of features that you’re never going to use. The Jetta provides two available suites for your convenience: Volkswagen Digital Cockpit and VW Car-Net® Security and Service. The latter turns in perks like Sunroof Rain Notification, Open Vehicle Notification, and Street Parking Restrictions Reminder.
And safety? The Jetta comes with a variety of optional amenities like Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Light Assist, Lane Assist, and Rear Traffic Alert.
