In 2018, Volkswagen will introduce an all-new VW Tiguan with fully upgraded features and specs to their SUV lineup. The Tiguan compact crossover got its start in 2007 utilizing the PQ35 platform of the Volkswagen Golf and incorporating it into a two-row seated, 4-cylinder format.

But for the 2018 model year, VW decided to change the game.

A new design, enhanced performance, and technological improvements to the 2018 Tiguan add a third row of seating, a length increase, and more. Learn more about the all-new Tiguan below.

What’s New About the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Car and Driver reports that the biggest changes to the 2018 Tiguan include “longer and lower exterior proportions, a fresh face, and a less-is-more design motif” meant to keep the price lower, and the action higher. This fully-capable beast of an SUV aims to transport a busload of kids, adults, or gear in comfort and style.

Design Improvements

The 2018 Tiguan is not only bolder than its predecessor, but it’s bigger, too. An impressive 10.7” length increase provides a 50% increase in cargo space, which places it ahead of models like the Honda Pilot and Dodge Durango.

40/20/40 sliding second-row seats mean a quick transition for third-row passengers. Storing cargo is also easier, thanks to a lower lift-in height for the tailgate.

Other improvements include:

  • New interior and exterior colors
  • Standard 17” wheels with an available 19” option
  • New premium seat surfaces
  • New Napa leather steering wheel and gearshift knob
  • Available 8-way power driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, heated seats and steering wheel, and foot-activated power liftgate

Performance Improvements

While the 2018 Tiguan lightened its horsepower load from last year, the torque increases considerably to 221 pound-feet. Opt for available 4MOTION® with Active Control for four drive modes to steer in multiple terrains, including snow and sand.

The award-winning Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform offers sedan-like control, while the 26-degree approach angle provides superior off-road handling.

Technological Improvements

The 2018 Tiguan also offers more advanced technology than previous models. Add the available 12.3” Volkswagen Digital Cockpit to enhance your view with front-and-center navigation data and view options.

Other available options include:

  • 8” touchscreen display with smartphone integration and compatibility including VW Car-Net® App-Connect, Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, and MirrorLink.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring
  • Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning
